The following information is important for vegans in this context:
A disproportion of Omega-6 fatty acids in a vegan diet or a low intake of Omega-3 fatty acids is known to cause an increase in the inflammatory activity of our body. Valued oils such as sunflower, corn, safflower, peanut and olive oils do not contain much Omega-3 fatty acids, but a lot of Omega-6 fatty acids, which can increase the risk of inflammation in our bodies. Flax oil and colza oil are more recommended due to their high content of Omega-3 fatty acids. Walnut oil and soya oil are also good. It is advisable to take seaweed vegan supplements with Omega-3 fatty acids. Fish also contains Omega-3 fatty acids but because of its negative effects it is not recommended. It is necessary to be very careful especially with oils and excess fat in a diet.

«Because of the Lyon Diet Heart Study, the media refer to these oils as “healthy for the heart”. Nothing could be further from the truth. Such oils are not healthy for our heart! Olive oil contains 14-17% of saturated fatty acids***. They provoke heart diseases as aggressive as the saturated fat of roast meat. Even if the Mediterranean diet includes such oils and slows down the progression of coronary heart diseases, in comparison to other diets that contains more saturated fats, the Mediterranean diet does not make heart diseases disappear or reduce».
(Dr. Esselstyn had patients suffering from angina pectoris — chest pains — who were strictly vegan but did consume olive oil. Chest pains reduced shortly after the patients stopped consuming olive oil).
